As I've stated before, rituals usually work better when aligned with your own energies, using your own words - rather than adopting overly verbose or cryptically arcane rituals that you might find in older grimoires or ancient texts. Having said that, there's nothing wrong with using rituals that feel right for your intentions, especially if the wording and the imagery evokes the desired elements you'd like to include.
There are many books out there with instructions and correspondences that you might like to research. Click here to see my list of books that might be of interest, but I've included some correspondences and charts further down, that you could use as a starting point.
For now, let's look at what ritual is and how it speaks to the subconscious, which will give you a better idea of how rituals work and how to make them more personal and powerful for your desired outcomes. Then we'll discuss how to prepare and create your own rituals. *VIDEO COMING SOON!
Correspondence Charts
Feel free to mix and match what suits you. The following are general guides - so you don't have to be too pedantic about what to use when or how to incorporate any particular element in your ritual planning.
OUTER PLANETS - Any day that seems appropriate to you:
NEPTUNE: Occult knowledge, illusion/mystery/secrets, imagination, the subconscious URANUS: Sudden changes, revolution, originality, visions, the future PLUTO: Transformation, death, rebirth, evolution
COLOR IN RITUAL AND CANDLE MAGIC
The above guide is based on basic colors and you might find that different hues have special meaning for you, such as indigo, violet and aqua - so play around and see what works best for your purposes.
Whether you're choosing an altar cloth or deciding on candle colors, it's a good idea to start with your intention before conducting your ritual. Sometimes there could be a need for more than one color, depending on the ritual and you might want to celebrate events such as gay pride - which could indicate a rainbow.
CONSECRATING CANDLES
After choosing the color, you'll need to consecrate the candle (or candles) and it doesn't have to be complicated, unless you like to dedicate different candles to different deities, energies, etc. You can use your own choice of anointing oil (an essential oil blended with carrier oil) or one of my special blends!
Before anointing the candle, you might want to inscribe any symbols/sigils relevant to your ritual or you can inscribe your astrological sign, magical name, etc. into it - using a small knife, pin or sharp instrument - being careful not to cut yourself - unless you want to use blood to enhance your magic!
*SAFETY WARNING: Only use a small amount of oil when consecrating the candle. You don't want the whole thing to go up in flames when you light it!
I like to rub a few drops of whatever oil I'm using onto the palms of my hands and then I'll take the candle and do either of the following:
For attracting positive energies: From the ends to the center of the candle, I rub the oil onto the candle three times - visualizing the desired outcome.
For repelling negative energies: From the center to the ends of the candle, I rub the oil onto the candle three times - visualizing the desired outcome.
Note: For elemental or deity candles, it's always the first method - to attract their energies.
